Cyndi has been researching her family history for more than 30 years. She is a frequent guest lecturer for genealogical society meetings and seminars, the author of three books on genealogical research on the Internet, and an active member of several genealogical societies. Cyndi will present these topics:

  • Coordinating the Cloud: Ancestry, Dropbox, Evernote, FamilySearch, GoogleDrive
  • Foreign Language Tools for English-speaking Genealogists

Gena Philibert-Ortega, our featured speaker from our 2018 Seminar, will present a program on The Anatomy of BMD: What You Don't Know About Vital Records. Vital Records: it's one of the first record sets you look for in the hunt for your ancestors. But do you know everything about those records you seek? What do you do when no records exist? This presentation looks at the history of vital records in the U.S., the variations of those records, and the alternatives. Ms. Philibert-Ortega is an author, researcher, and instructor whose focus is genealogy, social and women's history. Her published works include 3 books, numerous articles in magazines and online, and she is the editor of the Utah Genealogical Association's magazine Crossroads.

NGS 2019 Family History Conference –

NGS 2019 Family History Conference – "Journey of Discovery"  (Conferences)
St. Charles Convention Center, St. Charles, Missouri
The National Genealogical Society's 2019 conference includes more than 150 unique lectures on topics such as vital records and religious records, migration and immigration, U.S. census and military records, land records and maps, court records, ethnic resources, government documents, using DNA testing, technology for genealogy, and much more. Conference registration begins Dec. 1, 2018 – you can also register for workshops, tours, meals, and other special conference events. Every conference attendee receives a digital syllabus of more than 600 pages that includes each handout provided for every lecture. Ms. Elder is a professional genealogist and author, and creator of the "Research Like a Pro" study group and eCourse. Ms. Elder shares research tips on her website and presents regularly at genealogy conferences. Our short program features GVGS member Edie Sly's presentation on The Date Change Ordered by The Pope.
